In what many see as the most significant process of reflection and renewal in the Catholic Church since Vatican II, the so-called “synod on synodality”, is now in its concluding stage: following the first of two assemblies last October 2023, the three-year process reaches its conclusion in October this year. Austen Ivereigh was one of two British “experts” closely involved in the process. He will explain what happened at the assembly last year, what to expect this year, why this will be Pope Francis’s most significant legacy, and how this journey is set to reshape the future of Christianity.

Austen Ivereigh is a UK-based writer and commentator known for his two biographies of Pope Francis: The Great Reformer (2014) and Wounded Shepherd (2019), and for co-authoring with the Pope his 2020 book, Let Us Dream: the Path to a Better Future. He has just published, with Loyola Press, First Belong to God: On Retreat with Pope Francis. Austen writes for Commonweal, America, and The Tablet and is a sought-after speaker.

Reminder: This is a Sunday afternoon session.
