In a time marked by polarization, increased cynicism and resistance to institutional religion, hesitancy about religious belonging, many women and men - especially those of younger generations - are finding it harder to identify with the church.  This presentation draws on the faithful and radical tradition of Franciscan spirituality as a resource for helping today's Christians to respond to the 'signs of our times,' especially dire circumstances like global climate change and systemic racism.

Daniel P. Horan, OFM, PhD is the Director of the Center for Spirituality and Professor Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theology at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN.  He previously held the Dunn Scotus Chair of Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.  A columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, he is the author of fourteen books, including Catholicity and Emerging Personhood: A Contemporary Theological Anthropology (awarded First Place for Theology 2020 Association of Catholic Publishers) and his latest, The Way of the Franciscans: A Prayer Journey Through Lent.  He is co-host of The Francis Effect Podcast.
